The Hood River Heritage Farm’s Story

Meet Margaret: The Heart Behind The Hood River Heritage Farm

Hi, I’m Margaret, and my love for flowers has been a lifelong journey rooted in my upbringing in Hawaii. Growing up surrounded by vibrant tropical plants, I spent my childhood crafting leis, wandering through wild ginger, and exploring community gardens. Flowers became my love language—a connection that only deepened when my family moved to Hood River in 2003. We settled on a 7-acre former dairy farm that my father has lovingly transformed into a park-like haven.

In high school, I was fortunate to intern with an incredible florist who recognized my eye for design and knack for problem-solving. She hired me, and I spent nearly nine years honing my skills, balancing my passion for flowers with other professional pursuits. Even while working for engineering companies, I always returned to floral design on weekends, unable to resist the pull of flowers.

Eventually, I realized I wasn’t passionate working in a office, prompting me to take a 6-month break to travel and reflect. I believed in the idea that when one door closes, others open. Sure enough, towards the end of my hiatus, a friend’s aunt invited me to help launch her flower farm and market. Over the next year, I guided her through harvesting, cleaning, and designing flowers.

That experience reignited my dream. I found my confidence in running a business , grounded in my values of working smarter, not harder, and honoring the beauty of nature. The lightbulb moment came: I would transform my family’s old dairy farm into a flower farm.

Today, The Hood River Heritage Farm represents the culmination of years of passion, perseverance, and a deep-rooted love for flowers. Every bloom we grow and every bouquet we design carries the spirit of my journey—a story of finding beauty, resilience, and joy in every season of life.

Welcome to my dream—The Hood River Heritage Farm.
